Alliance in the News Roundup: Cooling Down Your Electric Bill

The media regularly quote the Alliance's in-house experts and feature the Alliance's accomplishments in energy efficiency. The latest media coverage of the Alliance includes:

  • The Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance’s (SEEA) Director of Municipal Energy Efficiency Programs Tamara Jones and Alliance President Kateri Callahan were interviewed by Atlanta’s Fox5 TV station for Simple Steps Can Save Energy at Home. Tamara describes the noticeable difference in her monthly energy bills after sealing and insulating rooms that used to  be either too hot or cold. The story offers other tips for saving energy and money, including using a ceiling fan running and changing your inefficient incandescent to efficient light bulbs.
  • Alliance Senior VP for Policy and Research Floyd DesChamps was quoted on greening the nation’s federal buildings in a story on the OMB “scorecards” on federal energy efficiency progress by SolveClimateNews.com. Steven Goldman of the Alliance’s policy team replied to their questions with an optimistic view about making federal facilities more efficient and livable.
  • The Drive Smarter Challenge, powered by the Alliance, was  included in a list of resources by Austin’s Your News Now (cable TV station)  to educate driver on maintaining the upmost efficiency when gas prices are on the rise.
  • Environment America posted an article about the International Codes Council’s new 2012 International Energy Conservation Code, which is 30% stronger than the 2006 code it replaces. The story referenced Alliance savings figures, including the fact that the code will allow American homes and business to save over $40 billion annually in energy costs by 2030.
  • The Building Codes Assistance Project (BCAP) was acknowledged in The Salt Lake Tribune for its finding that “building homes to the latest energy code would save households between $175 and $200 each year on energy bills, even when accounting for any increases in mortgage or construction costs to build to the code.”
  • Silicon Republic of Ireland dedicated an article to selection of The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland as one of the Alliance’s Stars of Energy Efficiency. The project has supported the upgrade of more than 100,000 homes since 2009.
  • An Associated Press story on the Green Campus Network, the Alliance Green Campus Program’s new initiative with the Tennessee Valley Authority, was picked up by several papers in the region and beyond:
