The Alliance would like to congratulate three of its Board members for achieving significant success in their careers: Alliance Honorary Chairman Senator Mark Pryor (D-Ark.);  Honorary Vice-Chairwoman Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine); and Honorary Vice-Chair Congressman Zach Wamp (R-Tenn-3).

For more than three years, Senator Mark Pryor has served as the Honorary Chair of the Alliance's Board, providing invaluable advice and perspective regarding Alliance policy activities. The Alliance has benefited from Sen. Pryor’s firm commitment to energy efficiency; on the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee he has worked tirelessly for critical energy efficiency policies in the transportation sector.

This year Senator Pryor will be taking on a new role in the Senate as a member of the Committee on Appropriations - the largest committee in the Senate, responsible for assigning funds to authorized programs. There are 12 subcommittees within the Committee, and Senator Pryor’s subcommittee assignments are not yet known. The Alliance is excited about Senator Pryor's new committee assignment, where we are sure that he will continue to be a valuable ally in our work toward a more energy-efficient economy.

Senator Susan Collins, an Alliance Vice-Chairwoman for over six years, has also been newly assigned to the Senate Committee on Appropriations; her subcommittee assignments are not yet known. Since her election to the Alliance Board, Sen. Collins has been an energetic advocate for energy efficiency, particularly within the military. She has also been instrumental in the effort for stronger standards for residential and commercial appliances. The Alliance appreciates Sen. Collins' longstanding commitment to the Alliance's mission, and looks forward to working with her in her new position on the Appropriations Committee.

On January 5 Rep. Zach Wamp announced that he will be running for the position of Governor of Tennessee, which will be an open seat in 2010. Representative Wamp has served in the House of Representatives for 14 years, during which time he co-chaired the House Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Caucus.

Rep. Wamp joined the Alliance Board as an Honorary Vice-Chair last year. Since then he has been active in Alliance events and programs. At the launch of the Alliance's Drive $marter Challenge he demonstrated his enthusiasm and passion for energy efficiency, coining the unforgettable phrase, "Saving energy isn't for wimps, it's for warriors!" The Alliance is excited about Representative Wamp’s gubernatorial campaign, and quite confident that he will garner widespread support. We wish him all the best in this journey, and we look forward to working with him during his next two years in Congress.
