The Alliance recently became an affiliate member of the Smart Grid Consumer Collaborative (SGCC), which researches consumer perspectives relevant to smart grid build-out. The SGCC also conducts consumer outreach on smart grid issues, and serves as a venue for members to share their research and pertinent best practices.
Ensuring an Energy-Efficient Smart Grid Design
The Alliance joined the SGCC to meet a mutual goal of ensuring that energy efficiency is built into smart grid systems’ design.
To consumers, energy efficiency may be the greatest benefit of smart grid and advanced metering systems, helping to reduce energy bills and environmental impact. Moreover, greater awareness of energy use may allow consumers to better understand how they use energy in their homes and businesses, allowing them to target effective energy-saving measures.
Prioritizing Consumers with Like-Minded Energy Efficiency Advocates
The Alliance joins several Associates who are already members of the SGCC, including Duke Energy, the Gridwise Alliance, Intel, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Best Buy and OPOWER. The Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance, a subsidiary of the Alliance, also recently joined SGCC.
“The smart grid has the potential to unlock major energy efficiency opportunities for consumers, empowering them to realize energy efficiency as the quickest, easiest and cheapest road to a new energy future,” said Alliance Senior Vice President of Policy and Research Floyd DesChamps.
“The Alliance promotes energy efficiency worldwide to achieve a healthier economy, a cleaner environment and greater energy security. We are pleased to work with the SGCC to ensure that consumers are able to realize the efficiency benefits of smart grid systems in achieving those goals,” DesChamps added.
