2010 Green Campus Energy Efficiency Summit: Greening the Campus, Building the Workforce

January 30 – February 1, Santa Cruz, CA – Alliance Associates from Southern California Edison (SCE), Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), Sempra Utilities, the California Energy Commission and Trane spoke to 60 Green Campus student interns about future careers in the energy efficiency field at this year’s summit, “Greening the Campus, Building the Workforce.” Also at the event were campus staff, faculty and administrators from 15 campuses, including the three newest additions West Los Angeles Community College, East Los Angeles Community College, and Los Angeles Southwest College.

On Sunday, January 31, Manager of Program Operations from SCE Mark Wallenrod, and Business Development for Educational Facilities from Trane Tim Sisson joined Alliance Vice President for Education Merrilee Harrigan and other panelists from Los Angeles Trade Technical College, URS Consulting and LA Department of Water and Power to discuss emerging green career trends.

Earlier that day, Account Manager for Trane Doug White sat on a Green Campus Alumni panel to share his success story of emerging from the Green Campus Program with the unique skill set needed to be an energy efficiency professional.

On Monday, February 1, Advisor for the California Energy Commission Panama Bartholomy addressed the group regarding energy issues and the future for green jobs. Also, representatives from SCE, Sempra and PG&E discussed utility rebate projects students can work on at their campuses along with their respective energy and facilities managers.
