PHILADELPHIA PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM Earth Apple Awards 2002 4th Place, High Schools Students on the energy team at Frankford High School identified ways to save energy in their school and replaced 22 incandescent light bulbs in the auditorium with compact fluorescent bulbs, decreasing daily wattage use by 65%. In another activity, five students from Frankford gave a presentation on energy efficiency at the Philadelphia Cooling Workshop held at the Community College of Philadelphia on April 30 and May 1 of 2002. Frankford’s energy savings efforts netted a total savings for the 2001-2002 school year of 494,888 kWh. This reflects a savings of 26% over a 9-month period.
