The resources are divided into free materials and materials available for a fee. FREE MATERIALS California Energy Commission CONSERVE & RENEW: An Energy Educational Activity Package for Grades 4-6 With a focus on conservation and renewable energy resources, this manual is flexible in order to fit into the curriculum of all classrooms. The lessons engage students in cooperative and class learning. The National Energy Education Development Project (NEED) NEED Energy Infobooks This comprehensive resource gives up-to-date statistics and a full history of all energy issues: electricity, fossil fuels, hydropower, global climate change, and more. Designed for use by students and/or as a reference for educators, the Infobooks are available at the Primary, Elementary, Intermediate and Secondary levels. Also check out the Infobook Activities, developed to reinforce the information in the Infobooks. U.S. Department of Energy Energy Education Resources: Kindergarten Through 12th Grade This booklet is published by the National Energy Information Center (NEIC), a service of the Energy Information Administration (EIA), to provide students, educators, and other information users a list of generally available free or low-cost energy-related educational materials. How to Save Energy; A Coloring & Activities Book (1998) Grades K – 3 This coloring and activity book makes learning fun. Fifteen pages of activities teach kids simple ways to save energy. The book makes a good introduction to the study of energy efficiency for the younger grades. Let’s Save Energy! An Information and Activities Book (1998) Grades 4 – 6 This information and activity book conveys key learning concepts in energy efficiency education. The activities consist of word games, puzzles, and mazes—all leading up to students who are more aware of their responsibility to the goal of energy efficiency. Culver Company Exploring Your Environment Discovery Guide (2002) Grades 3 – 6 This booklet surveys the links among energy, the environment, and energy efficiency. It outlines various activities to assign definitions to key concepts in energy education and presents a compelling approach to teaching and learning about energy efficiency. Energy and Your Environment Discovery Guide (2002) Grades 7 – 9 One of the best ways to approach the subject of energy is from many different angles, which this "discovery guide" does well. The small workbook capitalizes on history, math, science, English, and practical application skills to teach about energy, its origins, and its future. The Energy Source Education Council Program The Offalot Energy Education Unit (1992) Grades K – 3 This big box comes complete with a ten lesson curriculum, a cassette tape filled with energy information, a classroom workbook, a home activity booklet, flashcards, problem-solving story cards, stickers, an Energy Conservation and Safety poster, and best of all, the Offalot puppet. The Offalot is a creature interested in reminding kids about the safest and most efficient ways to use our precious energy sources. This package makes it fun to turn the lights off. Enterprise for Education Energy Transformations (1991) Grades 4 – 9 This small booklet makes a great companion to an energy conservation curriculum. Energy Transformations focuses on the different forms of energy: chemical, electricity, heat, light, and motion, and offers hands-on explorations about converting one form of energy to another. Working with Energy Graphs (1991) Grades 7-10 This energy educator fits well into a lesson about graphs and charts. Students read historical data on energy and energy resources, and then chart their findings. This activity teaches about energy, as well as helps to sharpen the development of analytical skills. National Energy Foundation Energy Management In and Around Your School Poster (1994) Grades 5-10 This fun, colorful poster presents an inside look at the energy systems at work in every school. The questions on the back require students to examine their own school’s systems and their own energy habits. This is a great device for learning about energy efficiency as a system, not just a collection of behaviors. |
