July 16-17 You can’t get much farther from Washington, DC, than Seattle, Washington, geographically speaking. Yet when it comes to environmental initiatives, Washington-to-the-West is making some bold moves. In my July 16 keynote speech to industry leaders at an energy forum hosted by Seattle City Light – a utility company responsible for many ‘green’ initiatives in the state’s capital – I talked about Energy Efficiency: the Power to Tackle Climate Change, and the activities we’re seeing in Washington-to-the-East as policy-makers hammer out climate change legislation. The following day I addressed members of the Large Public Power Council (LPPC) an organization comprised of 24 of the nation's largest locally owned and controlled power systems which service more than 40 million people. My presentation, Energy Efficiency: Good for Utilities, Good for Customers, Good for the Environment, addressed energy-efficiency programs developed by utilities, and how these fit into the larger context of markets, legislation and environmental concerns. |
