Exxon Mobil

During the 20th century Exxon Mobil Corporation became the world’s largest integrated Oil Company engaged in oil and gas exploration, production, supply, transportation, and marketing worldwide. It has proved reserves of 13.6 billion barrels of oil equivalent, 40 refineries in 20 countries with a capacity of producing 6.4 million barrels per day, and supplies refined products to more than 35,000 service stations in 100 countries. It also provides fuel to 700 airports and more than 200 ports, and is a major petrochemical producer.

Exxon Mobil has also been a strong advocate of policies that look to promote energy efficiency; deploy existing technologies that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions; and support research and development of new, low-GHG technologies. Over the years, the company has also supported the scientific and business communities to undertake research to identify and develop economically competitive and affordable technologies to reduce long-term global GHG emissions while meeting the world’s growing demand for energy.

For its part, ExxonMobil is taking action to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions today and to support the development of advanced energy technologies with the potential to significantly reduce future emissions. From making improvements in energy efficiency at its facilities, to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in all its operations, Exxon Mobil has managed to save 11 million metric of CO2 emissions between 1999 and 2005 - the equivalent to taking two million cars off the road – and is currently working to identify and implement additional measures to more than double these reductions in the near future.
