International Star of Energy Efficiency Award
The Trust Fund for Electric Energy Saving
For the first time, the Alliance to Save Energy Dinner and Awards Committee has created and will deliver a special category Award for contributions to energy efficiency achieved by companies, organizations, and government agencies based outside the United States. This year’s International Star of Energy Efficiency Award recipient is the Trust Fund for Electric Energy Saving (FIDE).
FIDE, a Mexico-based organization, has been promoting the efficient use of electricity in the municipal, commercial, and industrial sectors for over a decade. Among its activities, FIDE provides financing for energy audits and assessments, facilitates the acquisition and installation of energy-efficient equipment including central air cooling systems, and develops regional and national programs to reduce end-use energy consumption in the electric sector.
To date, FIDE has supplied financial assistance to over 3,000 energy saving projects and has managed to encourage individuals, companies, and municipalities to match funding at three-and-a-half times the level of FIDE’s initial investments.
In the past 15 years, FIDE’s domestic lighting program distributed over 9 million energy-efficient lamps. FIDE also has been instrumental in the replacement of over half a million inefficient refrigerators and 100,000 air conditioners, as well as an insulation project that has serviced nearly 20,000 homes in just 3 years.
