An Evening with the Stars of Energy Efficiency Awards Dinner: Tuesday, September 12th, 2006, from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm at the National Building Museum, 441 G Street, North West, Washington, DC

Charles H. Percy Award for Public Service
Mayor Matthew Driscoll and City of Syracuse

This year’s Charles H. Percy Award for Public Service will be presented to Mayor Matthew Driscoll and the City of Syracuse for outstanding contributions to climate protection and energy efficiency. Mayor Driscoll has been a driving force behind the expansion of energy-efficiency initiatives and programs in Syracuse and the region.

Under his tutelage, the city has replaced inefficient street lighting and traffic signals, retrofitted municipal buildings with energy-efficient equipment, performed comprehensive energy audits on major city facilities, implemented a city-wide energy management system to monitor and control energy use, and reduced the city’s total annual greenhouse gas emissions by 11,000 tons.

Mayor Driscoll’s vision and commitment to energy savings and sustainability are evident in his organization of the first statewide Sustainability Conference for Mayors and Municipal Leaders in 2006. Driscoll is a proponent of alternative fuel and renewable technologies and works actively with state and federal agencies to implement comprehensive energy and environmental initiatives. The Alliance is honored to recognize this achievement and his continued leadership in the arena of energy efficiency.
