Star of Energy Efficiency – Galaxy Award – The Dow Chemical Company

An Evening with the Stars of Energy Efficiency Awards Dinner: Tuesday, September 12th, 2006, from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm at the National Building Museum, 441 G Street, North West, Washington, DC

Star of Energy Efficiency
Galaxy Award
The Dow Chemical Company

The Dow Chemical Company is receiving the Galaxy Star of Energy Efficiency Award for its demonstration as an industry leader in energy management. Dow’s focus on technical innovation, its corporate commitment to energy-efficiency goals, and support of third-party education and outreach programs have led to a dramatic companywide reduction in energy intensity as well as significant industrial and residential energy consumer savings.

Dow’s energy-efficiency and conservation initiatives rely strongly on its structured approach to resource conservation and energy intensity reduction. In 2005, Dow exceeded an aggressive 10-year goal to reduce the company’s global energy demand by 20%. The cumulative energy saved was more than 900 trillion Btu’s, or the equivalent electric capacity to supply California customers with electricity for one year. The cumulative savings from this effort to Dow was more than $4 billion.

Dow’s successes in the area of energy efficiency largely can be attributed to its comprehensive corporate approach to energy management. The overall energy-efficiency and conservation effort at Dow is led by a Global Energy Efficiency Leader. This individual is responsible for implementation and management of Dow’s global energy conservation plan, including sponsorship of regional technology centers and site energy-efficiency teams and networks throughout the company.

Outside of Dow, the organization sponsors a number of energy-efficiency campaigns designed to help residential and industrial energy consumers save money and energy. Dow is also an active participant in the U.S. Department of Energy’s “Save Energy Now” effort and has hosted and participated in several training seminars and energy saving assessment programs throughout the country.
