Environmental Strategies for Industrial Development
The South Carolina Environment and Business Roundtable was organized by the Alliance to Save Energy and Clemson University in October, 2004. This group of government, business, and academic leaders contributed to a report entitled Environmental Strategies for Industrial Development. Energy costs and regulatory burdens represent two of several key burdens to U.S. competitiveness in a global economy. The report asserts that industrial competitiveness can be improved by boosting waste management capabilities that also make it easier for companies to comply with environmental regulations.
By:
- Enhancing industry awareness and practice of waste minimization
- Implementing simplified, low-cost methods for administering regulatory obligations, and
- Evolving the role of regulatory agencies into technical assistance sources for industry
this strategy becomes a foundation for economic development.
