COOL IT!
Money- and- Energy-Saving Tips to Help You Keep Cool
When You’re Hot Under The Collar

ANCHOR LEAD: Energy efficiency can help you save money and the environment.  (Name) has more.

SCRIPT: Consumer Focus, I’m Brian Osuch. Americans are more “plugged in” than ever. But at what cost?  As temperatures soar, so do electricity bills and air conditioning failures.  There are ways to minimize bills and risks. Kathleen Hogan of the Environmental Protection Agency:

CUT: (Hogan) Cooling our homes doesn't have to mean high-energy bills. EPA encourages people to lower bills and help the environment by having their air conditioner serviced annually, changing air filters, and sealing up gaps in their homes.

SCRIPT: Consumers can comfortably cut energy bills with a few simple steps. Alliance to Save Energy President Kateri Callahan:

CUT: (Callahan) You can raise the thermostat, still stay cool and cut down on AC costs by using ENERGY STAR-certified ceiling fans.  Also a programmable thermostat can help you cut your energy bills by 10% because it remembers for you to reduce the air-conditioning when no one’s home but the goldfish.

SCRIPT: For more tips on lowering your energy bill, visit ASE.org/consumers.  That’s Consumer Focus, from the Alliance to Save Energy. I’m Brian Osuch.
