Anna Carmichael: Why did you choose to accept Honda?s offer to sponsor your tour? Was the decision based at all upon the fact that the sponsorship would allow you to promote the civic hybrid? Did you choose to design the hybrid version of the civic for the fan giveaway, and if so why? Jesse Carmichael: I'm very happy to be involved with the car company with the most environmentally friendly track record. The idea that we might be able to influence our fans' opinions about what kind of car to buy is very exciting. We were the first band that Honda has worked with that designed a Hybrid model for the giveaway, and we are proud to be spreading the word about alternative energy sources. You also can go to the Honda Civic Hybrid Tour page to hear Adam (the singer) and James (the guitarist) explain why we chose to participate in this tour. Click on the middle icon that says “Hybrid Electric” AC: Do any of the band members own hybrids? JC: Yes, our bass player Mickey drives a hybrid, and I'm looking into getting one myself. AC: What influenced your decision to purchase a hybrid vs. the more popular larger SUVs?
AC: Have you gotten any feedback from your fans about the hybrid?s you are giving away? Besides the giveaway, do you do anything else at your shows to promote hybrids? JC: I know that people like the look of the Hybrid, I'm not sure if they've given any away yet or not. And besides the giveaway we have information booths at the concert and on our website. Also, before we play our video screens display environmental facts that hopefully encourage people to look deeper into Hybrid technology and all alternative energy possibilities. You can see our customized 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid that will be given away in a sweepstakes at the end of the tour by going to Honda Civic Tour webpage. |

Who says energy-efficiency can’t rock? One of the hottest bands in America, Maroon5, selected the Honda Civic Hybrid to sponsor their 2005 summer tour. Coincidentally, one of the members of Maroon5, Jesse Carmichael, is the brother of Alliance staffer Anna Carmichael. Shortly before the band played in the DC area, the Carmichaels (right) talked about what energy-efficiency meant to the band.
JC: I think there are a lot of good reasons not to purchase an SUV... they're inefficient and expensive to fill up... they're dangerous to other cars if they're involved in an accident... most people don't actually need their offroad capabilities... and I think their popularity represents a general problem with excess in the world today, especially in the United States. We all have to think forward and be open to how alternative energy sources can improve the quality of life for a lot of people.
