 Organized in 1933, Edison Electric Institute’s (EEI) members serve nearly 70 percent of all electricity customers in the nation, including more than 90 percent in the shareholder-owned segment, as well as generating almost 70 percent of the electricity produced by U.S. electric utilities.
To represent and advance member interests, EEI, a trade association for U.S. shareholder-owned electric companies, provides advocacy, authoritative analysis, and critical industry data to its members, Congress, government agencies, the financial community, and other opinion-leader audiences; provides forums for member companies to discuss issues and strategies to advance the industry and to ensure a competitive position in a changing marketplace; and assists the industry with both short term challenges and strategic planning regarding the structure, regulation and environmental compliance efforts, financial health and economic policies, and competitiveness of the electric power industry.
