The Alliance welcomed many new Associates in 2004, raising the number of innovative businesses, organizations and government offices that participate in the Associates program to 90.
National Roofing Contractors Association. Established in 1886, the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) is one of the construction industry's oldest trade associations and the voice of professional roofing contractors worldwide. NRCA is an association of roofing, roof deck, and waterproofing contractors; industry-related associate members, including manufacturers, distributors, architects, consultants, engineers, and city, state, and government agencies; and international members. NRCA has more than 4,600 members from all 50 states and 54 countries and is affiliated with 105 local, state, regional and international roofing contractor associations.
NRCA's purpose is to provide information, take action, educate and conduct programs that enhance the business interests of our members and allow them to shape consumer roofing choices by providing them with the best available technology and business practices. The California Energy Commission. The California Energy Commission is the state’s primary energy policy and planning agency. Created by the Legislature in 1974 and located in Sacramento, the Commission has five major responsibilities: 1) Forecasting future energy needs and keeping historical energy data; 2) Licensing thermal power plants 50 megawatts or larger; 3) Promoting energy efficiency through appliance and building standards; 4) Developing energy technologies and supporting renewable energy; and 5) Planning for and directing the state response to energy emergencies. With the signing of the Electric Industry Deregulation Law in 1998, the Commission's role includes overseeing programs that support public interest energy research; advance energy science and technology through research, development and demonstration; and provide market support to existing, new and emerging renewable technologies. Niagara Conservation. Niagara Conservation was founded in 1977 (like the Alliance!), driven by a vision to manufacture products that save natural resources. The early company manufactured low-flow showerheads called the Niagara showerhead and other residential weatherization products for the newly developing utility conservation program market. National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). NEMA was established in the fall of 1926 by the merger of the Electric Power Club and the Associated Manufacturers of Electrical Supplies. The association provides a forum for the standardization of electrical equipment, and enables consumers to select from a range of safe, effective, and compatible electrical products. The organization has also made numerous contributions to the electrical industry by shaping public policy and operating as a central confidential agency for gathering, compiling, and analyzing market statistics and economics data.
NEMA attempts to promote the competitiveness of its member companies by providing a forum for the development of technical standards that are in the best interests of the industry and the users of its products. It also works to establish industry policies on legislative and regulatory matters that might affect the industry and those it serves and the collection, and analyses and disseminates industry data. NEMA has over 400 member companies, including large, medium, and small businesses that manufacture products used in the generation, transmission and distribution, control, and end-use of electricity. National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) is the national service organization dedicated to representing the national interests of cooperative electric utilities and the consumers they serve. The NRECA Board of Directors oversees the association’s activities and consists of 47 members, one from each state in which there is an electric distribution cooperative. The chief spokesman for the nation’s electric cooperatives is NRECA Chief Executive Officer Glenn English.
Founded in 1942, NRECA was organized specifically to overcome World War II shortages of electric construction materials, to obtain insurance coverage for newly constructed rural electric cooperatives, and to mitigate wholesale power problems. Since those early days, NRECA has been an advocate for consumer-owned cooperatives on energy and operational issues as well as rural community and economic development.
NRECA’s more than 900 member cooperatives serve 37 million people in 47 states. Most of the 865 distribution systems are consumer-owned cooperatives; some are public power districts. NRECA membership includes other organizations formed by these local utilities: generation and transmission cooperatives for power supply, statewide and regional trade and service associations, supply and manufacturing cooperatives, data processing cooperatives and employee credit unions. Associate membership is open to equipment manufacturers and distributors, wholesalers, consultants and other entities that do business with members of the electric cooperative network.
The U.S. Green Buildings Council (USGBC). USBBG is the nation’s leading nonprofit coalition for advancing buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. Major programs supporting its mission include the Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) GreenBuilding Rating System™; LEED Workshops; LEED Professional Accreditation; the Greenbuild International Conference & Expo; and a robust local chapter program. Since its founding in 1993, USGBC has focused on fulfilling the building and construction industry’s vision for its own transformation to high-performance green building. The Consumer Energy Council of America (CECA). CECA is a non-profit organization, dedicated to promoting public policy positions that advance the best interest of residential and small business consumers of essential energy services. Maryland Energy Administration (MEA). MEA works to enhance the productivity of Maryland’s industries, provide benefits to the State and offer Maryland residents an opportunity to save energy and money. CDA serves as the advanced market development and technical service arm of the copper and brass industry, chartered to enhance and expand markets for copper and its alloys in North America.
