Meet EVO: An Introduction to the Efficiency Valuation Organization

The Efficiency Valuation Organization (EVO) is the only non-profit organization in the world solely dedicated to creating measurement and verification (M&V) tools to allow efficiency to flourish.

EVO’s Vision: A global marketplace that correctly values the efficient use of natural resources and utilizes end-use efficiency options as a viable alternative to supply options.

EVO’s Mission: To develop and promote the use of standardized protocols, methods and tools to quantify and manage the performance risks and benefits associated with end-use energy efficiency, renewable energy, and water efficiency business transactions.

Energy efficiency is recognized as one of the cleanest and most cost-effective “sources” of energy. But, in order for efficiency to be considered a reliable resource, its energy savings, including the persistence of savings, must be verifiable and project transactions costs must be kept to reasonable levels.

The organization was built on the belief that if energy efficiency is to realize its full potential, building and industrial owners and operators, service companies, consultants, contractors and financiers must adopt common technical and financial methods for quantifying savings of energy or water efficiency business transactions. EVO provides protocols, training and certification, and builds a community to promote energy efficiency through proper quantification of actual results.

PROTOCOLS
EVO has developed and maintains two generic protocols for developers, owners and financiers of efficiency projects.

1. IPMVP (International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol) - Through the 3 volumes of its flagship product, EVO has been assisting public and private decision-makers around the world for over a decade to measure and verify end use energy efficiency.
o Used in more than 40 countries; Available in 11 languages; 500+ copies freely downloaded monthly.
o Cited as basis for performance evaluation of numerous government and utility energy-efficiency programs

2. IEEFP (International Energy Efficiency Financing Protocol)
o “Blue print” for Local Financing Institutions (LFIs) to finance Energy Savings Projects (ESPs)
o Focuses on savings value of ESPs for loan repayment and credit capacity review
o Tailored to local conditions to train LFIs on intricacies of financing ESPs
o Creates guidelines for evaluating and assessing benefits and risks of financing and implementing ESPs
o Creates sustainable lending infrastructure at a “grassroots” level

EVO is willing to develop protocols focused on unique characteristics of specific market sectors.

TRAINING & CERTIFICATION
EVO provides training workshops for M&V professionals in order to raise the standards in the field. Using its international expertise, the organization develops special workshops and training programs tailored to the needs of specific regions.
IPMVP Training - EVO Trainers are prepared to conduct M&V and IPMVP seminars to fit client needs, including half-, one- and two-day workshops. Workshop program content is developed and presented to promote interaction with participants. Based on a proven workshop agenda philosophy, EVO schedules trainings such that fundamental concepts are reinforced via practical application and examples. Workshop topics can be modified based on attendee needs and interests.
CMVP Training and Exam - EVO, in cooperation with the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), has established the Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP) program with the dual purpose of recognizing the most qualified professionals in this growing area of the energy industry, and raising the overall professional standards within the M&V field. Currently, there are about 1,000 CMVPs worldwide.
• Financier Training - EVO is supporting a European Commission project to encourage investment in energy efficiency in Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria and Croatia. This project, known as PERMANENT, will raise awareness among senior financiers of the merits of energy efficiency projects for their clients, and the collateral value of a well-documented savings stream at a credit-worthy host.

BUILDING COMMUNITY, PROMOTING EFFICIENCY
EVO strives to support and provide access to the global base of knowledge in the field of resource efficiency M&V. Building an international community is critical to the global promotion of the efficient use of natural resources.
Affiliates - Select key energy efficiency players (both private or public entities) around the world are granted special rights and opportunities to use EVO’s name and materials in their area to support EVO’s Vision and Mission.
Multi-national Board of Directors and Volunteer-supported Committees – These “in the trenches” EVO supporters partner with organizations around the globe to develop EVO products, and provide outreach at numerous conferences around the world and via international publications.
Subscriber Services – EVO’s subscribership allows energy industry professionals to join a community offering invaluable opportunities to share ideas, experiences, questions and solutions with other EVO Subscribers around the globe both virtually and face-to-face. Subscription opportunities are available for organizations and individuals.
