EVO Announces Its New Chairman of the Board: Satish Kumar

EVO is pleased to announce Satish Kumar as the new Chair of the organization’s Board of Directors. Dr. Kumar has extensive experience in the industry both in the U.S. and India, and with EVO and the IPMVP, having been involved with the original development of the Protocol document and on the EVO Board since its inception.
 
Satish Kumar is a Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, where he has worked for the last nine years. He has a Bachelor's degree in Architecture from Indian Institute of Technology (Roorkee, India) and a Ph.D. in Building Performance and Diagnostics from Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, USA) and has more than 14 years of experience in the field of energy policy and research, measurement and verification of energy savings, simulation and engineering analysis, indoor environmental quality, and indoor health and productivity. As the Technical Coordinator of International Performance Measurement & Verification Protocol (IPMVP) from 1997 to 2004, Dr. Kumar has played a leadership role in the development of the IPMVP, which has significantly influenced the development of energy services sector around the world. As part of the LBNL's Applications Team, he has been on the Federal Energy Management Program's (FEMP) M&V team that had led the efforts for the development of best M&V practices for Federal Energy Management Program's Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPCs). Currently, he plays a key role on the FEMP's Technical Quality Assurance and Improvement team responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Federal ESPC program and for providing training to people interested in implementing the Federal ESPC program. Dr. Kumar is an expert in promoting energy efficiency in the public sector and is currently working with Maharashtra State government in India to help reduce energy use in the public sector by 20 percent.
 
Dr. Kumar is currently a member of the CMVP Board, which is responsible for overseeing the certification program for measurement and verification jointly developed by EVO and AEE. He was the recipient of International Energy Service Professional of the Year for 2003 awarded by Association of Energy Engineers. His work has been published in building technology and energy efficiency journals, conferences, energy encyclopedia and he has served as peer reviewer for many journals and conferences. Dr. Kumar has published more than 30 papers in international journals and conferences and has been an invited speaker at over 40 international conferences and workshops.
