Help Stop President Trump’s Budget from Gutting Efficiency Programs

Dear Energy Efficiency Advocates,

President Trump released his detailed budget proposal on May 23 and while we expected to see significant cuts to federal energy efficiency programs, the final numbers still came as a shock. Overall, the Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) would face an almost 70 percent cut and the energy efficiency programs specifically would be cut by nearly 80 percent. This is in addition to eliminating hugely popular programs like ENERGY STAR. Needless to say, such cuts would be devastating to federal energy efficiency programs that benefit Americans by ensuring we’re using our natural resources as wisely as possible while at the same time creating jobs in a growing efficiency sector, saving consumers money through lower energy bills and strengthening our energy security.

Here are the proposed cuts to some of the most critical energy efficiency programs:

  • Building Technologies Office: 66% cut
  • Advanced Manufacturing Office: 68% cut
  • Vehicle Technologies Program: 73% cut
  • Weatherization Assistance Program: Eliminated
  • State Energy Program: Eliminated
  • ARPA-E: 93% cut (Slated for elimination by end of FY2018)

Fortunately, it is up to Congress to determine the actual funding levels for these programs. We need your help to make sure that Members of Congress understand how important these programs are to American businesses and consumers. Please consider showing your support by submitting a letter to your Congressional delegation. We’ve made it easy for you: Simply fill out and submit the form below, and you will be taken to a pre-drafted letter, which you are free to edit as you wish or leave it as-is and submit electronically to your U.S. senators and representative. It takes just a few minutes.

As always, we sincerely appreciate your support as we work to protect these crucial programs.
